Waikato tournament played at Pirongia 10th & Tieke 11th February 2023.
Tieke Golf Estate is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece located along the banks of the mighty Waikato River. It is a new golfing experience in New Zealand that uses the original riverbed of the country's most powerful river. Golfers of all levels can enjoy the fine fescue turf, creeping bent grass-putting surfaces, and a sensational design. Tieke offers a unique blend of links and private valley golf that provides the feeling of being the only golfers on the course. The intention is to encourage ground game strategy, where a well-played "bump and run" shot is rewarded as much as a skillfully executed lofted wedge. Despite being more than 50 kms from the nearest beach, Tieke offers a style of golf similar to that played on coastal links. The expansive sandy wastelands provide a striking and distinct character to the course that acknowledges the whakapapa or history of the land.
Pirongia Golf Club has several distinctive features that set it apart from other clubs. One of the most notable features is the stunning backdrop of Mount Pirongia. The mountain's lower slopes are well-groomed and pastured, creating a beautiful contrast against the bushy upper reaches. This close proximity to the bush attracts an abundance of tui during the spring months, as well as smaller numbers of kaka (NZ native parrot) and kereru, our native pigeon. Additionally, the Waipa River and its tributary, the Mangapiko Stream, offer breathtaking views from certain parts of the course.
