Hi All Once again the big jolly fellow is knocking at our doors. Where does time go? I pledged to myself at the start of the year to create more time to practice and sort my golf game out however as my handicap reflects this has not happened. It appears that the older you get the busier you get and hopefully Bill can create a division for past and present presidents at Ohope this year. I am sure Richard and I could have some amazing battles over the 4 days.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you our members and families all the best for the festive season and New Year. A special thanks to John and all our delegates that ensure leftie golf remains alive in the regions. Apart from our delegates we also have many stalwarts whom run or assist with local tournaments throughout the year THANKYOU. Also Brian, for the website, and all our members that go that extra mile to attend tournaments outside their regions THANKYOU.
Bill Burt and Trevor Hayes appear to have Ohope under control. This is a great venue and with these guys running it I am sure it will be an event not to be missed. Once again enjoy Xmas, keep safe, spend time with your families and get in plenty of golf over the coming summer months. Catch you around the greens
Wayne Chesham. National President.
2016 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, OHOPE . APRIL 4th to 7TH.
Secretary’s Corner. Annual Subscriptions. Christmas and a new year are coming – and this means it’s time for next year’s subscription to be paid. Your account for the 2016 year is enclosed with this bulletin $30 remember that a couple, or those families with more than one member in the Association, need to pay only $50 in total for their family subscription, Just a reminder to those members, who in the past have included their sub with their entry fee when entering the National Champs, to send their subscription to me rather than send it, in this case to Ohope It saves a considerable amount of work for the Tournament Secretary. Keep an eye on our website www.nalg.co.nz the site is continually updated, and currently has a number of interesting item’s, remember that every quarterly Bulletin can be read on the website up to 10 days before being found in your letter box. You can also download an entry form for the next Nationals, or if you wish too, enrol a new member. Season’s Greetings. Andrea, and John, wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas, and we look forward to catching up with many of you in 2016. John Barber. National Secretary.
2015 Australian Nationals Report 50th.NAGLA Championship, Port Macquarie NSW.
We played 3 course’s Port Macquarie, South West Rocks and Wauchope; South West Rocks was over an hours drive, but worth the trip. All beautifully presented courses, and Wauchope and South West Rocks were combined Bowls and golf clubs, the clubhouses were shared, and both had Pokies and Tab included. South West Rocks was a superb lay out, with a slope of 140, the annual sub here was $250.
New Zealanders who won prizes were Geoff Ingram runner up in the Super Seniors, Nigel Messenger runner up gross in the B division. Audrey Messenger Runner up gross Ladies. Ian Mackay won a daily prize, and Owen Young, was as mystified as we were when he was called as a member of the winning team for the Doug Bachli Cup Looking at the Tournament booklet the prize is given for the first round of the championships, the team of two with the lowest net aggregate score.
The winner of the A Grade gross was Peter Sheridan of NSW, who also won the NZ title at Remuera in 2013, Cheryl Gorham also successful in NZ won the Australian title for the 12th time. Come back Lisa!!! All in all a great week in a lovely part of NSW, very ably managed throughout by the Australian Leftie committee.
Interesting that loud applause greeted the news that next years Aussie Nationals at Royal Pines Surfers Paradise, will be played on the one course, which from memory has 36 holes. This will be a very popular venue, and if you are thinking of going, you need to act well before June next year.

Obituary David Devine We were very sorry to hear that David passed away whilst we were in Australia for their Nationals.
David was from Napier, and was still until recently following his life time occupation as a Surveyor. A long time member of the Marenui club, and a great supporter of our Leftie organisation, he attended many of our tournament’s over the years, and was a member of a committee for the 1997 Nationals in Napier He will be very sadly missed.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to Julie and family
TOURNAMENT RESULTS.
WELLINGTON LEFTHANDERS. Te Marua Golf Club. 26 Sep. Well, we've just completed our first Wellington lefty’s tournament in three years. We lefties are very caring people and we are very concerned with NZ's drought conditions so we seem to go out of way to encourage 'damp' conditions during winter tournaments. Mind you we had only occasional light rain at Te Marua but the evidence of our endeavours was very apparent with a few balls drowned in some fairly large pockets of surface irrigation and some muddy/clean/muddy shoes. As usual, of course, we all had a lot of fun but some of the scoring was a bit low. My 24 stablefords was matched by several others with a couple at 18-so I wasn't the lowest.! Now the important stuff. Nigel and Audrey Messenger did a wonderful job organising the tournament. The Te Marua Caterer is excellent and we had a lot of happy faces at the after match! As well as great prizes Nigel handed out various items to non prize winners- I got a nice Calloway ball (clean). Audrey has sent me a copy of the results that follow. Thank you to the sponsors, ANZ, and Oxygen Properties

HAURAKI Left Handers Tournament, 27th. September 2014 We missed Robin Kent who was away in South Island with the Hills family to remember Mark, who sadly left us a year ago.
In his absence the Dalgety’s and Davis boys were able substitutes, although the club house was noticeably quieter.
It was lovely day, and we were thrilled to see life member Norm Behrent, we didn’t worry about your golf score Norm, always good to see you. President Wayne won the day with a great 41 points; he was 2 points clear of local Mike Davis, followed by Nuddy on 38.
Thank you Hauraki, another enjoyable day

SIR BOB CHARLES SILBERHORN 44th LEFTHANDERS. Masterton Golf Club October 31st Masterton Golf Club was very fortunate to obtain Bob Charles's sponsorship for the tournament last weekend. They (and us) worked very hard at it. He we know our association is very alive having long conversations with Secretary John and area rep Tim. Unfortunately our numbers did not match the effort but we did double last years figures. 15 lefties and 31 righties took part in the annual Bob Charles Tournament at Lansdowne Course (Bob Charles original club). The day was tremendous with 20 degrees and bright sunshine. The grass was a little long for my liking but I was told it was deliberately so to prepare for the expected drought It was good to see Mahunga represented with Graeme Dick taking out the top leftie prize. A good contingent from Napier came too. Both Barry and Wayne Hughes expressed the desire to see me (and you fellow lefties) at their Napier tournament- a two day one on Wellingtons Anniversary weekend in January so put in your diary now.
Prizes: Bob Charles Challenge Cup for lefties (Best Gross) - Graeme Dick Holland Percy Cup for Best Net Vets - Jack Boettcher Clarke’s Jeweller Cup for Tournament best net - Jack Boettcher Stablefords: 6th Steve Hemingway 38, 7th Wayne Hughes 38, 8th Wayne Evans 38, and welcome to Peter Sampson who had 35 Bill Werry
Ngaruawahia October 18th Mark Hughes Memorial Day A number of Lefties from around the Waikato, (although, sadly none from Tokoroa) and far beyond including Wayne Hughes, Rob and Sara Dean and Hylton Tabb from Hawkes Bay, Harriet Byelich, Peter Jacobson from Taumarunui, and Bill and Debra Ward from Palmerston North
Past President John Walker upstaged the field, with a magnificent 42 points, winning the Mark Hughes memorial trophy, very worthwhile scores by the ageless Ces York and Bill Ward 39, followed by Stan Mathews and Greg Limond with 38 Cheered Terry Kirkus now 80 years young. Well done Wayne another good day enjoyed by all and of course we all remembered Mark.

Kaikoura 14/15 November The players experienced pristine conditions on Saturday, but unfortunately Sunday started off fine, but got rained out.
Play had to be halted with only 9 holes being played, thus reducing the tournament to 27 holes. However everyone enjoyed the weekend.
The Wall Trophy for the best Gross was won by Martyn Price, with 117. R/U John Price, 121. The Bob Charles Trophy best Nett was won by Malcolm Pettigrew, again! 103. 2nd and hard on his heels was John Solly with 103.5. 3rd was Mike Neal with a 107.5. 4th was Harry Timms with 108. 5th was Geoff Harmon with 110 c/b. The Terry Wilson Trophy Best stableford was won by John Solly with 60. So john being the only one with a 2 and ctp had a very good week end. The most honest golfer was Les Boniface, we won’t say, but he went home with a prize.

Ashburton Lefties Sunday 18th October
Despite the excitement NZ vs France Rugby World Cup quarter final 15 players turned up and played a stableford in a very blustery Nor Westerly Despite the conditions Hilary Lovett and John McPherson played great golf and were clear winners. The Nineteeth: 2017 will see our National Tournament back in the South. Chisholm Park Club in Dunedin being our host club and the dates will 10th to 13th of April. Note the Central Otago classic over 5 courses (Alexandra, Cromwell, Wanaka, Queenstown and Arrowtown) is the Monday to Friday prior to our week and we are hoping that Lefties both local and from overseas who play the 5 day classic will continue on to Dunedin for our Tournament. At this stage I know of at least 8 NZ Lefties contemplating this feast of golf in the South. John Roche who we know from our Nationals in Alexandra in 2011 and NALGNZ will work together in promoting our respective tournaments.
John Roche says of Chisholm Park “A truly great layout and my original club, tremendous Club house also”
Robbie Cumming won his Club Champs (Pakuranga) for the 8th Time, and at the NZ Masters tournament recently at Te Awamutu, playing for Auckland won all his matches.
Harold Francis at his home club Muriwai spent ages looking for his ball at the Par 3, 3rd, and yes it was in the hole, Harold hit a three wood to this 180 metre hole. Well done Harold.
Looking back at the Tournament booklet for Napier 1997, I notice a lot of familiar names. There were 213 in the field; including 22 ladies and 66 of the male field had a handicap of 12 or under.
It was a very big week for Chairman John Macmillan, and committees, who included, John Geddis, Keith and Dusk Dallas, Bill and Val Sangster, Dave Devine, Ron and Dot Palmer, Ron Vesty and Bruce Newsome. The tournament was held from 22/25th April.
TIME FOR A LAUGH Gianni Poggio, an elderly Italian man who lived on the outskirts of Positano, Italy, went to the local church for confession. When the priest slid open the panel in the confessional, the man said: "Father, during World War II, a beautiful Jewish woman from our neighbourhood knocked urgently on my door and asked me to hide her from the Nazis. So I hid her in my attic." The priest replied: "That was a wonderful thing you did, and you have no need to confess that."
"There is more to tell, Father. She started to repay me with sexual favours. This happened several times a week, and sometimes twice on Sundays."
The priest said, "That was a long time ago and by doing what you did, you placed the two of you in great danger, but two people under those circumstances can easily succumb to the weakness of the flesh. However, if you are truly sorry for your actions, you are indeed forgiven."
"Thank you, Father. That's a great load off my mind. I do have one more question." "And what is that?" asked the priest.
"Should I tell her the war is over?''
HORSE CORNER Keith Towers (Written Tycoon) won and paid $10 plus in early November. His others Prioritise, Troup Rd, Irish Whispers, and Valour will be in the money soon and often... Barry Patton (Highly Likely) won at Te Rapa in September paying over $25 to win, catching us all by surprise, followed up with a good second at Matamata Our two, soon to be named are coming along quietly.
LAST THOUGHT Bring a friend to the next Tournament you attend.
